2008 Guide Almost Here!

Maine Gallery Guide 2008 on press in Montreal

The new 2008 Maine Gallery and Studio Guide is on its
way and it looks great!

Last week Anthony
and I attended press check for Gallery Guide in Montreal. It went very well with no surprises. We were on press from about 11:00 am Friday through to 6:30 am Saturday. It is a long and exhausting process but very interesting. The presses are huge and it is a wonder to see the gigantic rolls of paper pass through the rollers for each individual color application. We worked with Michel Vigneault again who has been our printing rep for 3 years now at Litho-Mag. The pressmen were very good and had the color up accurately, very quickly.

The weather was fantastic and the drive north to Canada through Corbin Gore was magnificent. We got to see the last (hopefully) snow on the ground
in places like Eustace. They were still skiing at Sugarloaf.

At the usual moose spotting site on our way to Canada
we watched a yearling moose drinking water and smelling the breeze.

Stan Israel will be out and about with the guides soon and busy signing up advertisers for '09. He can be reached at 949-1990. We will also be mailing some boxes out as well.

Be sure to check out our new ad options for studio artists and sign up early for special rates on all advertising.

Please let us know if we can do anything for you, or if you have any questions. 1-888-482-4405

Happy spring!

Back lots, factory yards, tank farms, industrial machinery, the evidence of human involvement with the land are the subjects that inspire these artists. This exhibit continues at the Farnsworth through Oct 7.

The
Portland Museum of Art “Graphite.” This exhibition of paintings, drawings, and sculpture explores the myriad ways that contemporary artists use graphite. The exhibition features 25 works drawn from the museum’s permanent collection, and on loan from local artists. “Graphite” is on view through Nov 25.

The
Portland Museum of Art,“Frank Lloyd Wright and the House Beautiful.” This show will feature approximately 100 objects, including furniture, metalwork, textiles, drawings, and accessories from the collections of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and other public and private collections. The exhibition explores how Wright sought to develop a modern interior reflective of a uniquely American spirit of democracy and individual freedom, and displays his experiments with bringing these ideas to the homes of average Americans. CALL FOR ART

A Web of Opportunity for Maine Artists!
Dirigo Road Gallery - a new cooperative of artists residing primarily in Penobscot, Hancock, and Kennebec counties, has launched dirigoroadgallery.com. The site is designed much in the same way as a “bricks and mortar” art gallery, with dynamic and rotating displays of artwork, whose purpose is to promote, market, and sell the work of its member artists to a worldwide audience. Members must reside in the state of Maine, and there are still several membership openings for interested artists. For further information on sales or to become a member of the co-op, contact Grace Keown at 234-2243 or Connie Henderson at 234-2025.

Lollipop Art Productions of Portland
. Lori Rae is looking for artists who paint with subtle colors -- no faces, or people, animals or anything with eyes -- not completely traditional works to be displayed in a Holistic Chiropractic Office in Falmouth, Maine. You drop off work, she installs it. Shows are 6 week to 3 month rotations from September to December, and into next year. There is room for about 25 medium to larger sized pieces and this is a nail hanging. Call Lori Rae for more information at 415-7143.
